Announcing another year of South Germantown Cyclocross, race #5 of the Sportif Cross Cup Series. The race this year will be on November 12th in Boyds Maryland. Team Bike Doctor has put the ‘fast’ stamp on this course. The course is a mixture of gravel, singletrack and grass, including the start/finish. It has a great mix of climbing, sweeping off camber sections and a series of downhill S-Turns. New for 2015, we have added a wooded section where entry position will be a key factor to your success.
South Germantown CX is located at the South Germantown Recreation Park, next to the bike park. NO alcohol permitted in the park. The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk. There will be porta-potties located at the central portion of the event as well as near staging. Indoor bathroom facilities are available at the Discovery Sports Center across from Central Park Pond.
The course is adjacent to the South Germantown Bike Park. This facility includes a series of progressive dirt jumps and a 5,000 square foot pump track. Kids of all ages can enjoy themselves, so bring the whole family, and their bikes!
Cafe Jefe’s Java Cruiser will be on hand serving an amazing variety of espresso, coffee, smoothies, breakfast and lunch items. They accept Visa, American Express, MasterCard, Discover and Cash.

The 2016 Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-MOD frame introduced a bottom bracket spec change to BB30A. The “A” is for asymmetrical. Cannondale claims (and we agree) the change provides a noticeable increase in BB stiffness. If you buy a Cannondale crankset set up for the asymmetry built into the bottom bracket, everything works fine. If you want to put a Shimano chainset on, then that asymmetry poses a problem you have to solve. Another point worth noting is to not get confused with the BB30 part of the naming convention. Regular BB30 bearings will not work on this frame. The bottom bracket shell is designed for a PF30 bearing (PressFit30). For purposes of this post, the author in this instance chose to select a PF30 outboard bottom bracket. The good people at Wheels Manufacturing came up with a solution that worked out really well.
Right about now you may be thinking, “Umm, I think I’ll let my LBS handle this one.” And yes, we always encourage that choice, but it is always helpful to grasp the engineering behind product advances as well. Below is the BB30A on the Cannondale. The bottom bracket shell is 73mm wide. The openings are standard PF30. Where the “A” comes in is rather than the being centered on the bike’s geometric center, the bottom bracket is offset 5mm to the non-drive side. Here’s a couple pictures that show what’s going on:

Saturday March 5, Team Bike Doctor got together for one of their classic winter team rides. The crew rolled out from Glen Echo in Potomac, MD and headed out on the rural Belgian like back roads of Montgomery Co towards Sugarloaf for a 3.5 hour ride.
The team was so stoked to be rocking some of our new gear from #Cannondale, #Shimano, #PearlIzumi and #BikeDoctor. We are fortunate to have such generous sponsors and many of us were aboard our new #SuperSixEVO frames. What an amazing bike! Shimano Di2 shifts went off with a whiz and a zip, and our Pearl Izumi kits were looking pretty sweet in our new for 2016 green color! We were also trying out our new Cannondale Cypher aero helmets with optional aero cover. It’s all coming together to give us some serious weapons for doing battle on the MABRA circuit.
The team is looking forward to another great year of racing and training, and one thing is for sure, we can’t wait to push the pace and see what we can do! No doubt we couldn’t do it without the amazing support we get from our great sponsors!
Team Bike Doctor is pleased to the return of our introductory cyclocross clinic coming up on September 6th. The clinic is returning for its fourth year having seen increasing popularity each fall. This will be a 4 hour long clinic geared for those with little to no experience who just want to get down the very basics that are needed for racing cyclocross.
You do not need a cross bike to participate, but a bike with knobby tires and off-road appropriate clipless pedals will provide the best learning experience. A mountain bike would work just fine. A helmet, however, is required.
When: Sunday, September 6th, 2015, from 10am to 2pm
Where: Rosaryville State Park in Maryland.
Cost: $10 and attendees are encouraged to register in advance using paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include the names of those attending. Juniors are FREE–just email us with their names! Day-of registration will be $15, however, we recommend that you register in advance as we reserve the right to close off day-of registration if we reach capacity.

On a scorching hot weekend, the Bike Doctor Racing Team sent a few folks to southern Virginia to compete in the 2nd edition of the Tour of Hampton Roads. The Tour of Hampton Roads gives riders a taste of everything the peninsula has to offer, featuring a scenic City Center Criterium in Newport News with a pancake flat course surrounded by bustling restaurants, and an 87 mile Road Race in the rolling country roads of New Kent.
This past Sunday was the Brambleton Town Center G.P., put on by Evolution Cycling and PTS Racing. This is a fast 6-turn criterium with a short .8 K course. The lap times were super fast, and the weather was perfect.
First up was the Cat ¾ 35+ with Steve Fife and Cliff Chamberlain representing team Bike Doctor. Fife patrolled the front and slipped into the 6-man break that rolled early in the race and stayed away to the end. Putting down some power, the 6-man break eventually lapped the field on this short course, and Fife immediately went straight to the front to stay out of trouble. Chamberlain put in some solid turns at the front on the last laps to keep the pace high and to avoid the swarm. Fife positioned well on the last lap and crossed the line in 2nd place.

Bike Doctor also featured in the 1/2/3 race later in the day with Nicholas Taylor, Peter Warner, Pete Custer, Dallas Siok, and Ben Reynolds. The team followed a bunch of unsuccessful attacks, mixing it up with the other top teams from the area. Taylor once again proved he is a consistent rider and grabbed the final podium spot in the field sprint with 3rd place.

Where to start?! The Antietam Velo Club, Randall Buxbaum and Joe Jefferson deserve a huge round of applause for working so hard to promote an incredible weekend of racing. We are very thankful to the event sponsors, volunteers, organizers, officials and community for making this such a memorable weekend.
For many team members, the weekend wouldn’t be complete without contesting the “Kick-off Criterium” held on Friday evening. There’s certainly a bit of risk vs. reward involved in contesting the Kick-off twilight crit with the Stage Race set to start on Saturday. But, the Twilight Kick-off crit is just too incredibly unique, raucous, entertaining and fun to miss. The energy and enthusiasm is contagious which makes for dramatic racing and spectating. It was a busy weekend for Team Bike Doctor. On Saturday, several team members headed over to Cambridge, MD to put their time trial fitness to the test at the Church Creek 40k Time Trial. Given the distance, heat, potential wind and very strong competition, the Church Creek time trial course always requires a high degree of motivation and good legs. There’s just no faking your way through it. Many hearts have been broken and lay by the roadside on the final 10ks of this course.
Nicholas Taylor led the elite team with a scorching time of 52:20 which placed him in 2nd place. All of the guys put in powerful performances which will hopefully serve as a solid confidence boost as we enter the summer time trial season.

At the Poolesville Road Race this past weekend, Team Bike Doctor delivered one of their best team performances of the year. The fireworks started early with a small move off the front gaining traction. The team wanted to “lean forward” today and press every advantage it could without having to do any chasing. Everyone contributed in numerous ways depending on where they were at throughout the race. In the end, Lucas McCollum was able to get the jump on his break mate and cross the line in victory solo! It was a special performance and day for Team Bike Doctor! Big thanks to teammate, Cliff Chamberlain, and Bonnie Tabasko for the feedzone support as well!
Massive thanks to the NCVC club team for promoting this annual event! We know it’s a big a production and we appreciate it. Also, big kudos to Dan Netzer (Celerity Cycling). Dan put in a classy ride to secure 2nd place and rode aggressively off the front from the gun.
